Veteran is referred to as someone who worked in the military. A US veteran receives several benefits and is honoured every 11th of November via parades, awards programs and recognitions.
The word "Veteran", as it is explained in the dictionary is someone who is experienced in a specific area. In states such as the United States, it refers to someone who has worked in the armed forces.
The United States Department of Veterans Affairs is a government branch that runs the military veterans benefit system. It provides programs of veteran benefits for veterans, survivors of wars and their families and dependents too. Veterans’ benefits at the Federal level are the following: disability compensation, financial support for college, home loans, life insurance, medical and burial benefits, survivors’ benefits, and vocational rehabilitation.
Each state in the America also offers benefits to veterans such as education and property tax relief. Every state has specific condition to be eligible for such benefits.
In addition to the government, there are other private institutions and associations that offer benefit programs for US veterans. Many of these institutions are manage by veterans themselves, so they know the special needs of this group. Such institutions are usually partnered with recognized establishments around the world in giving special discounts and freebies on travel and entertainment, gifts and shopping as well as health and wellness and other services helpful to veterans.
There are other organizations and support groups that provide free service to veterans. These people help veterans and their families find the medical care they ought to have or work with them to interface with government departments.
Veterans were also given a holiday, called Veterans Day or Armistice Day to commemorate their contributions and services via conducting programs and parades and giving recognition. The United States considers November 11 as a national and a state holiday as signed into law by President Eisenhower in 1954. |
